On Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer called Adora Svitak a ‘Tiny literary giant.” The title seems astute when you measure her diminutive stature against her accomplishments. Though only four feet tall, seven-year-old Adora has written over 250,000 words this year alone. Try that one on for size.
Adora's extraordinary writing ability is strongly correlated to her incredible ability in and love of reading. Reading thousands of books fueled Adora's passion for writing. She developed her writing skills and techniques naturally and smoothly by reading a great variety of books. She reads her favorite books over and over to savor the beauty of words, the ingenuity of the plots, and the depth of historical knowledge. She devours books like a hungry lion. Going to a library and bookstore is like going to a candy store. Although she has been to libraries and bookstores countless times, she would get so excited and happy whenever the possibility of going there is mentioned. Book reading has been instrumental to the success of Adora's writing. Without reading literally hours everyday, Adora wouldn't have been as successful in her own writing. The more she reads, the more she is inspired and encouraged to express and explore her own imagination. For all readers and writers out there, read more, and write more!
